Thompson and Green React to Warriors Postponement
Earlier today, the NBA announced that tonight’s game between the Warriors and Denver Nuggets would be postponed because the Nuggets do not have the minimum eight required players rostered for the game tonight. The decision comes after Denver coach Mike Malone announced that three more of his players were entered into health and safety protocols this morning.
A few players have sounded off on the decision, specifically Warriors stars Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. Green, who has been in the NBA’s health and safety protocols as of earlier in the week, took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the situation:
Green extrapolated on his comments, primarily targeting the decision because it was unfair that the Nuggets were able to play against the Warriors while they were missing a significant amount of players on their roster earlier in the week. It looks like he had plenty of time today, as he also decided to respond to some commentary on people in his mentions.
Klay Thompson’s shot was a little more subtle and had a little more humor to it, posting a meme from Heavyweights:
Thompson, who hasn’t played in awhile now because of his injuries, was slated to return sometime in early January. If the Warriors face more postponements, however, those potential return dates for him could look a little bit different.
It’s obvious there’s a lot of frustration from players around the league about the NBA’s handling of the health and safety protocol. It’s already been made clear that they won’t go back into the bubble, but as Covid becomes more and more widespread and more cases continue to pop up around the league, more games will get delayed and it’s entirely possible the season itself goes on a brief pause.
The Warriors next opportunity to play will be January 1st against the Jazz. While Thompson likely won’t return to play by then, Green could clear protocols. The matchup would include a post battle between him and Rudy Gobert, a rivalry Green has been known to take personally because of Gobert somehow winning multiple DPOY awards over him, and it should be a good game overall between two Western Conference heavyweights - assuming, of course, the game is played.
