Steph Curry Provides Injury Update

After he was diagnosed with a strained ligament in his left foot, there was a lot of uncertainty floating around about when Steph Curry would see a return to play. The 2x MVP spoke to the media a few moments ago and provided some news on his injury. Curry said that he was informed this particular injury shouldn’t be rushed in the initial stages, meaning his revaluation in two weeks will likely give us a better picture of where he’s at:

Curry also spoke on the circumstances of the injury itself. A lot of people took to calling the play, in which Celtics guard Marcus Smart made a diving play for the ball that ended in him colliding with Curry and subsequently injuring his foot, a “dirty play”. Smart’s garnered a reputation (whether deserved or undeserved is up for debate) that made it easier for many to place the blame on him.

Steph wasn’t too quick to join in on that. While he did mention that there should be a “conversation” on whether or not Smart should have dove in the first place or not, the Warriors superstar made sure to clarify that he did not think it was with the intention to injure.

The play, mostly because of its results, has sparked some debate about hustle play versus recklessness and what constitutes what. The general consensus is relatively split, as a lot of people have an attachment to the idea of “hard-nosed basketball”, with player safety just being a cause of that sometimes. Some media analysts like Jay Williams have jumped to defend Smart’s actions, although Williams has also been relatively anti-Steph for awhile now.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater also captured a video of Curry walking away from the media podium with a bit of a limp and his left foot in a boot. While he appears to be able to walk, it’s obvious that the injury is bugging him quite a bit:

The timetable for Steph Curry’s return will likely be in the balance until we hit that 2-week mark, but Curry seems to anticipate being ready for the start of the playoffs. It will be up to Jordan Poole to hold down the point guard position in his absence, although the Warriors will also still have Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins to shore up and get things done while waiting for 30’s return.
