The return of China Klay?
Klay Thompson has put together quite an impressive off-season thus far given that he had to kick it off undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left Knee which he suffered in game 6 of the NBA Finals.
Some highlights of Klay’s summer, post-surgery, included going instagram official with his girlfriend Laura Harrier (as well as taking a trip to France together), signing a 5-year, $190 million max contract with the Warriors, going on a relaxing Tahoe trip with friends, hosting a youth basketball camp and the list goes on.
In past summers we were used to seeing an appearance from Thompson’s alter ego, China Klay, a very extroverted, outwardly fun and entertaining version of himself during what has now become his annual summer trip to China to promote his signature shoe with Chinese brand Anta. It wasn’t certain though this year that he would be making the trip to China due to the rehabilitation process following ACL surgery. It looks like however we actually may get to catch a glimpse of China Klay this year as noted via a post on thebasketballshoes page on Instagram, an NBA shoe specific social media account. The post contains a flyer with the heading “KLAYTHEISM” and the caption reading “KLAYTHEISM!!! Klay Thompson will visit Shanghai on September 7, and September 8 at Nanjing for the launching of his 5th signature shoes with ANTA”.
There has not been official word on if Klay will indeed make a trip to China this weekend but my guess is we’ll find out very soon. If so be on the lookout for some fun China Klay content coming our way. I’m guessing we wont be seeing any viral failed dunk attempts this time around, or any dunk attempts at all for that matter but it would be nice seeing him keep the annual China tour going.
