Curry Cup 2023 Recap
This week, the Underrated Golf Tour concluded with its keystone championship event, the Curry Cup. The tour, a series of 2-day events geared towards providing opportunity and access to the sport of golf for student-athletes across this country, brought in 24 of its participants to Lake Merced in California so they could compete for a championship.
Once the main event was concluded and the winners crowned, four scholarships were provided by sponsors of the event, the 2k Foundations Merit Award and Dell Curry Scholarship Presented by Cisco.
There was also an 18-hole putting contest with two of the qualifiers, where they competed against both Stephen Curry himself and LPGA pro Mariah Stackhouse. Other post-contest events included a discussion panel with Curry and Stackhouse, as well as a celebration for all participants, their families, and their guests.
Some of the notable attendees included longtime Warrior Andre Iguodala, and Steph’s college coach at Davidson Bob McKillop. McKillop had the opportunity to speak, and shared a story on how Steph’s drive to just keep improving has gotten him to his place as one of the best NBA hoopers of all time:
The event was an excellent opportunity for these young athletes not to just compete, but to also build connections and network in an environment that was structured for them to do so. The Underrated Tour has provided student-athletes from all over the country great opportunities which they otherwise wouldn’t have had all through its season, and the Curry Cup is just another example of what it can provide.
They also had the chance to hear directly about what Steph Curry’s process and mindset is to remain competitive even as he enters the final stretch of his career. Here’s an inside look at what Curry had to say about how his process has changed and the importance of remaining intentional:
Hearing from one of the most accomplished athletes in their respective sport, as well as someone regarded unanimously to be the best at a particular skill in that sport, is inspirational on a lot of levels. Combine that with the opportunity to compete at a high level, and it’s no wonder why the Underrated Tour has been so impactful to so many.
