Steph Curry Wins 1st Finals MVP, Cements Legacy as All-Time Great
Four-time NBA Champion, Two-time MVP and now a Finals MVP for the greatest point guard to play the game of basketball, Steph Curry. His 34 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists helped the Warriors defeat the Celtics in six games and reclaim their title as NBA Champions once again. His stellar play throughout the entire playoffs gave fans a feeling that he could finally capture a FMVP, and he did just that. Before the 2022 playoffs many were quick to push Curry away from the all-time great discussion.
Now they have no choice but to include him in it. In this season alone Curry carved out a hall of fame performance in the NBA. He broke the record for most three-pointers made all time, averaged 25.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists in the regular season, won an All-Star MVP while hitting an insane 15 three-pointers, won the newly added Western Conference Finals MVP and had many other insane record-breaking games. And to cap it all off he added NBA Champion and Finals MVP to that list. Here is what his resume looks like after winning it all on Thursday night.
That list of accomplishments has undoubtedly cemented him as an all-time great player. Not that he needed this ring to do so but adding a FMVP to his list has certainly helped quiet the critics. He joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lebron, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, and Tim Duncan as players that have captured at least four titles and two MVP awards in their careers. Truly elite company to say the least.
Steph was asked how he felt coming into the Finals, and he answered, “I feel like I’m in my prime.”
still feels like he hasn’t hit his breaking point yet. After all the accolades listed above, he still feels like his best basketball is ahead of him. After a Finals MVP performance and securing his fourth ring in eight years he will surely keep adding on to an already stacked hall of fame career.
My question to the NBA fans is this: does this cement Steph as a top ten player of all time? If not top 20? There will only be one Steph Curry in the game of basketball and there will only be one man responsible for changing the way the game is played for good. Not only has he revolutionized the three-point shot but he made it a necessity on championship level teams. He was to the three-point line what Michael Jordan was to the midrange game. As fans we can only name a few great players that truly changed the game. MJ and Lebron being the most common names but in today’s era Steph Curry had one of the largest impacts on the game that we have ever seen.
The only blemish on his career was not having a Finals MVP and he went out and got it this season. Reporters and analysts alike said he couldn’t lead a team to ring by himself and he went out and did that. Out of his four championships this one must have been the sweetest for Steph as he silenced all the haters and put a cap on his historic season.
In the words of Steph Curry, “What they gonna say now?!”
