Steph Curry hits 16 threes and secures his first All-Star MVP
What a performance. The NBA’s 75th annual All-Star game did not disappoint as Steph Curry stole the show in Cleveland on Sunday night. He hit a record-breaking 16 threes, the most ever in any All-Star game and scored the second-most points ever with 50. It was an efficient 50 piece for the three-time champion as he did so on 30 shots with 17 makes, 16 of which were three-pointers.
His 50 helped Team Lebron to a 163-160 victory which was capped off by a LBJ fade away mid-range jumper for the win. This might be the only time ever that we can say Lebron helped Curry win an MVP award of any kind. James ended with 24 points but the Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP award went to Steph for his insane game. After all he has been through the past few months and all the talk of his shooting slump, this game must have been the best feeling in the world for him. And to do it in his birthplace on the same stage where he won multiple championships just made the moment ten times better. The booing fans had no choice but to cheer as they witnessed one of the best shooting performances in All-Star history. Granted they don’t play much defense most of the game but if it were that easy then anyone would have hit 10 plus threes.
Curry technically passed his Splash Brother Klay Thompson’s record for most threes in a game at 14, although it was the All-Star game, but now he can say he has video proof of him being the better shooter. No one plays with the amount of confidence that Curry plays with as he pulled up from anywhere and it went in. Half-court shot? No problem for Steph as he shot it and looked away before it went in. He is the best shooter ever and just proved it again on one of the biggest stages the NBA has to offer. The broadcast had Ja Morant mic’d up during Steph’s run and all he could do was shake his head in disbelief.
He quite literally put up video game numbers in real life and got the win. Even if Team Lebron lost it would have been hard to not give him the MVP award. This moment was one for the history books, but we can’t forget to factor in the NBA’s top 75 team. Not only was he playing in front of the fans there but also the top 75 greatest players in NBA history. Talk about pressure and wanting to perform for the guys that paved the way for every All-Star today. Steph did just that. So Dubs fans soak it all in as this weekend was a much-needed break and refresher for not only the fans but for Curry as he looks to capture not just an All-Star Game MVP but also a Finals MVP this season.
