Jordan Poole Agrees to 4-Year, $140 Million Extension
Ahead of the October 17th deadline, the Warriors and Jordan Poole have agreed in principle on a 4-year contract extension worth $140 million, higher than 6th Man of the Year Tyler Herro who set the market earlier this month, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This was anticipated even prior to last week’s team incidence with Draymond Green, but after it seems Poole was a deciding factor in Green only receiving a fine as punishment, he’s made it clear that his maturity has made it worth the extra spend.
Of course, there’s plenty of on-court evidence to warrant Poole’s extension. He put up 18.5 points, 4 assists, and 3.4 rebounds, and while his shooting wasn’t that remarkable at first glance (44.8% from the field and 36% from three), his volume as a 3rd year player and shot difficulty contextualize his slashes as very good, and to improve as his shot selection becomes more refined. His free throw shooting was a league best 92.5% as well, buoying his potential down the line.
Poole figures to be a major piece of the Warriors roster moving forward with this extension now finished. He’s been hailed as the “Steph Disciple”, with his tendencies and skillsets mirroring the 2-time MVP. Curry’s mentorship of Poole will be key to his development, raising his ceiling from potential All-Star to plausibly an All-NBA candidate or higher down the road.
