James Wiseman to likely miss season opener
The Warriors gave an injury update on both Klay Thompson and James Wiseman on Monday afternoon.
On the Klay Thompson front, all is pretty much on par with what we already know. Thompson will not fully participate in training camp aside from participating in various controlled drills. There is no date set on when he will return to full practices with the team.
Second-year big man, James Wiseman’s status, however, was fairly surprising as many in the Dub Nation contingent felt he would be ready to go for the season opener, however that does not seem to be the case now. The Warriors announced that Wiseman’s rehab has been going according to plan, but that he will not be a full participant in training camp as he will be cleared to begin full jumping six months post-surgery, which would be October 15. With the Warriors season opener set to take place on October 19 against the Los Angeles Lakers, it’s apparent that Wiseman will not be ready to go for that game. He’ll likely miss a hand full of games to begin the season.
It looks like Kevon Looney will be a lock for the starting center job now, to begin the season at least. Looney has had a great summer and even participated in the Drew League where his team won the championship following a big tip-in bucket he scored to send the championship game into overtime.
With so many injuries over the past few years, the Warriors are in no hurry to rush any of their injured guys back. They will play the patient and maybe even more cautious approach whenever Thompson and Wiseman are ready to go again.
