Draymond Green Takes to Social Media to Call Out Team USA Detractors
Late Friday night and into the early Saturday morning hours Draymond Green was feeling some type of way. The now two-time Olympic gold medalist quickly shifted his focus from celebration mode to attack mode and sometimes mixed the two modes together as he sounded off via social media on those who disparaged the U.S. Men’s Basketball team following their slow Olympic start.
Team USA defeated France, 87-82, in a hard fought match that came down to the final minutes as they took home gold. The old red, white and blue has historically been very dominant in international basketball play over the years. Most notably, their dominance was on display with The Dream Team in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic games in which a Michael Jordan led USA team defeated their opponents by an average of 44 points on their way to cruising to a gold medal finish.
More recently however, international basketball teams have raised their level of play significantly. Proof of this can be found in the sudden influx of international players into the NBA. So, obviously, competition for Team USA has increased significantly as well. Many of the top international teams have plenty of experience playing together and sometimes have months of team practices before the Olympic games. Conversely, the U.S. teams generally practice for about a week or two before beginning official play. That was the case with this year’s iteration of the U.S. Men’s Basketball team.
So when Team USA lost it’s first exhibition game against Nigeria, the world took note. Later they would lose another game to the team they would eventually face and defeat in the gold medal game, France. This loss drew more attention, especially from the U.S. media and talking heads and that’s when the hot takes began to fly. That’s when the Nick Wrights and Kendrick Perkins faction of sports media really began to sound off with their bashing of the U.S. Men’s Basketball team.
Well, Draymond Green was making a mental note of all the comments and criticism. As soon as the final whistle blew Green began his revenge tour and immediately hilariously called out Kendrick Perkins while on Kevin Durant’s Instagram Live.
Draymond’s continued to pull receipts later via his Twitter account where he called upon the popular Old Takes Exposed Twitter page to find all the horribly wrong Team USA hot takes.
The moral of the story here is to make sure you do your homework and don’t criticize for the sake of criticizing especially when you’re going after a team with the two-time Olympic gold medalist, and three-time NBA champion on it. You may just find yourself getting called out.
