Former Nets player, Mike James, argues Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Devin Booker are more skilled than Stephen Curry
Well, here we are again.
It seems like every few weeks or so there is another either retired or current NBA player who subtly, or sometimes not so subtly, disrespects two-time league MVP, Stephen Curry. This time, that player is Mike James.
James, who played for the Brooklyn Nets last season, albeit for only 13 games, took to Twitter to debate fans on the topic of most skilled players.
In a social media post from Clutch Points calling for the most skilled players of all time, James quote tweeted the post saying he believes Kyrie Irving deserved to be on the list. The original list didn’t contain Curry’s name. This prompted another user to message James asking him why he didn’t mention Curry’s name, in which James responded by saying he felt Kyrie was a more skilled player than Curry, and that Curry was just a better shooter.
There was plenty of back-and-forths that ensued following the former Nets’ controversial take. But for the most part, James was getting lit up by fans of the Baby-Faced Assassin.
The Oregon native is no stranger to this discussion. In June of 2020, he also had some similar tweets. A Twitter post asking users to “pick the 3 most skilled players here” with a list of nine players, one of them being Curry, was again quote tweeted by James. His answer, “Kyrie, harden, book.”
Another user, again, called James out, asking him if he really selected Devin Booker over Curry. To which James replied with, “That’s what I said.” The former NBA player followed up by asking what made Curry more skilled than Booker, to which James got flamed for, again.
Then of course, just as we usually see in these matters involving Curry, the back peddle ensued. James confirmed that he does believe Curry is the better player, although he couldn’t explain why.
This whole interaction just reminds me of what Andre Iguodala once said about Steph.
"I've never seen it in a person, such a good person ever get some backlash or whatever from his peers because they're so jealous of what he has…”
That’s some real insight from a multiple-time NBA champion and a veteran who has seen it all.
