Wiggins Is Currently Golden State’s Most Efficient Three-Point Shooter

As of today, Andrew Wiggins has the 8th best three-point percentage (minimum 5 attempts per game) in the entire NBA at 42.5 3P% through 29 games played this season. He also leads the Golden State Warriors in three-point percentage with Nemanja Bjelica in 2nd at 40.0 3P% and Steph Curry in 3rd at 39.6 3P%. I know, this was shocking to me as well but it does make sense once you really think about it.

Curry leads the team in three-point attempts at a staggering 13.4 3PA. Jordan Poole is the runner-up at 7.8 3PA while Wiggins comes in at 3rd at 5.3 3PA. No wonder Andrew leads the team in three-point percentage with the low number of attempts he puts up per game compared to the greatest shooter that ever lived. In the month of December while he was chasing the NBA’s all-time three-point record (December 1st to December 14th, 7 games), Curry shot 101 three-pointers. During that same span, Wiggins only shot 36 three-pointers. It makes a whole lot of sense now, doesn’t it?

But don’t get me wrong, Wiggins has made the most of his opportunities from deep with a high success rate. Even Steve Kerr has been extremely happy with Andrew’s performance this season and he believes it has to do with his simple approach.

"The biggest thing I’m seeing from him is that he’s just catching and shooting," Kerr said after the Warriors’ 126-95 win over the Orlando Magic back on December 6th. “He’s always been a pretty good three-point shooter, but maybe more a little bit off the dribble. And the thing is, he’s gotten better with us when he’s open. He’s just catching and shooting."

Wiggins has proven that he is the second best overall scorer on this team behind Curry. That is in part due to the motivation he has received through Steph chasing Ray Allen’s record. The stretch of games leading up to that monumental moment has helped Andrew become the threat from deep that Golden State fans see today. Andrew has had no better teacher in his entire basketball career than the Baby-Faced Assassin. There has even been chatter of whether or not Wiggins should be considered to be an All-Star this year.

Let’s just hope that Wiggins’ rhythm won’t be screwed up with him now being out due to COVID protocols. Get healthy and make your way back to the court soon, Andrew.
