Stephen Curry Becomes Fastest Ever to 150 Threes in a Season

The records just keep coming for Golden State’s generational superstar. Tonight against the Celtics, Stephen Curry became the quickest player to hit 150 threes in a season, a landmark stat previously owned by… Stephen Curry, who set it in 2018-2019 after breaking the record he set in 2015-2016.

Steph reached the mark the first time in just 33 games, a record James Harden previously tied before Steph did it in 30 games in the 18-19 season. This time around, he did it in just 28 games despite his recent shooting struggles. When you look at the numbers, this isn’t exactly the most shocking revelation.

Stephen Curry is the only player in NBA history averaging 5 or more made threes per game, and he’s done it four times including his current averages. This season, he’s averaging a career-high 5.4 threes per game, although he is shooting the lowest percentage from three of his career excluding the 2019-2020 season where you played only 5 games.

Curry obviously owns a ton of three-point records and has continuously broken his own a couple times. The only notable record he doesn’t have belongs to Klay Thompson, who has made the most threes in a single game at 14 - beating none other than Steph’s original record of 13 to get there.

Amongst the records Curry owns are the most threes in a Finals game, most threes in NBA Finals history, most threes in playoff history, most threes in a single-season playoff run (tied with Klay), most threes in a single season (he’s on pace to beat it this year), highest career average threes made per game in both the regular season and playoffs, and most games with both 10 and 11 threes made by wild margins.

With his surpassing of Ray Allen’s all-time regular-season record for three-pointers made in a career, he was able to add that notch to his belt of crazy accomplishments. It should also be noted that Curry surpassed Allen’s all-time record of threes made in the regular season and postseason combined earlier this season, and is expected to be the first-ever player to reach 3,000 threes made for a career.

Curry owns the longest streak of games with at least one three made at 157, although his current active streak (the second-longest ever) is currently active and sits at 153. It looks to be another career year for Steph as the Warriors are in the hunt for the top seed in the West, and the man himself is in contention for his 3rd MVP title. If he picks his scoring back up like he did late last season, he may be able to take home another scoring title as well.

It’s pretty unfathomable how good of a shooter Curry is. He truly is 1 of 1, and the chances somebody ever surpasses his uncanny ability to shoot the laces off the ball are slim to none. Is it possible? Sure. But it requires the game moving in such a direction that there’s space to do it. And if the game ever gets there, it’ll be because Stephen Curry pushed it there.
