Poole gives update on ankle after tweak

Jordan Poole didn’t disappoint in his regular-season debut Tuesday night as he seemingly picked up right where he left off from last season.

Poole poured in 20 points in only 25 minutes of action against the LA Lakers while carrying some of the scoring burden during important portions of the game.

But the impressive showing and 121-114 win didn’t come without its price.

The former Michigan Wolverine was looking to attack in the middle of the third quarter when he got tangled up with LeBron James near the sideline. The play sent James tumbling to the floor, but Poole was visibly limping shortly after, resulting in Poole making a quick trip to the locker room mid-game with a member of the team’s training staff.

A few minutes later, Poole would emerge from the locker room and eventually check back into the game. Needless to say, that was a good sign that the injury was likely not too bad. Proof of this came with big production later in the fourth quarter as he scored on a few skilled, athletic finishes at the rim.

After the game, when asked about the ankle tweak, Poole said it happened on a “funky play”, following that up with confirmation that the injury was nothing to worry about, “I’ll be fine.”

Steve Kerr was asked about the JP ankle tweak after the game as well and he seemed to brush it off as nothing of concern and wasn’t even sure what leg the injury occurred on.

It would be surprising if the young guard misses any time due to the injury, although the Warriors do have a history of leaning towards extra caution in dealing with player injuries. But with Poole being a young gun, returning to the game, and hearing Kerr’s lack of worry, I’d side with Poole being active for Thursday’s big home opener against the Los Angeles Clippers.
