Andrew Wiggins misses Warriors practice, feeling "under the weather"

Warriors starting small forward, Andrew Wiggins, did not report to practice today, per head coach Steve Kerr.

Kerr spoke to the media following his team’s practice session at their Chase Center practice facility today and noted that Wiggins did not practice with the club on Saturday, saying that the former Jayhawk was “under the weather.”

Wiggins has recently taken center stage for his stance on opting to not take the Covid-19 vaccine thus far.

The jab has essentially been mandated for the entire Warriors squad to take in order to be allowed to play in any home games in San Francisco this season. The mandate is set to begin on October 13, which means that as it currently stands, if Wiggins does not get vaccinated by Oct. 7, he would likely not be eligible for his team’s first home game at Chase Center on Oct 21, or for Golden State’s home preseason finale on Oct. 15.

Kerr did not provide any more details on Wiggins’ status other than that he still expects his starting forward to be available at the start of the season.

Did Wiggins get vaccinated

One theoretical reason that Wiggins could be feeling '“under the weather” is that he may have decided to give in and get vaccinated.

This theory would make sense as the first preseason game Wiggins would have to miss would be on Oct. 15., which just so happens to be exactly two weeks from Friday. So if Wiggins did get the shot on Friday, he could have felt like dog crap as a result on Saturday causing him to miss practice. If that is the case, then he would be eligible to play on exactly Oct 15, as the Johnson & Johnson shot has a two-week wait time until a recipient would be considered fully vaccinated.

Or, Wiggins did not attend Saturday’s practice because he’s feeling ill for another reason. Or, Wiggins missed practice for a million other potential reasons.

I suppose only time will tell. We’ll certainly be on watch.
