Everything you need to know about the Golden State Warriors' new Chase Center
18,064 seats. 552 taps. 36 eateries. 23 bars. 8 full-sized kitchens.
The Warriors will move on from Oracle Arena, where they have played since 1971, to a new state-of-the-art arena, Chase Center, next season.
The focal attraction of Chase Center is its towering scoreboard with dimensions of 82 feet, 9 inches by 52 feet, 8 inches, hung all the way around for 9,699 square feet – the largest scoreboard in the league.
With the added square footage on the screen, the Warriors have decided to show their increased propensity for analytics, adding a “Four Factors” box, showcasing each squad’s efficiency field goal percentage, turnover percentage, offensive rebound rate and free throw rate. These are the four box score derived metrics that correlate most closely with winning.
Additionally, the Chase Center comes encompassing the Warriors’ practice facility, where all the team employees will work out of. Right outside the locker room exists a weight room, which is right next to two full-size practice courts. These courts will be available to the Warriors pre-game, post-game, on off-days and even during halftime with complete privacy, if need be.
"I think, for me, it's different just because I've never had that experience," Stephen Curry said. "I've seen other arenas -- growing up in Charlotte, they had that -- and that was kind of my first real experience with it, where you have one locker room, practice court, familiar setting no matter what day it is, and go over to the arena. So hopefully it will help expedite the overall comfort level of the transition."
The two-time former MVP visited the newly-unveiled arena for a JP Morgan Chase event earlier this week to speak to around 250 girls about the importance of physical fitness and financial health.
The $1.4 billion self-financed sleek, sparkling new home of Dub Nation has been built to serve the affluent members of the Bay Area. There are 44 club suites on the second level that cost anywhere ranging from $4,000 to $40,000 for a single event, which comes with 16 tickets and a couple of parking passes. Furthermore, there are 60 smaller suites that seats four that comes with an inclusive restaurant and bar.
The most luxurious suites are the Google Cloud courtside suites; only 32 of them were created. These suites, 30 of which have been sold, are going for $1.5 million to $2.25 million. They come outfitted with a butler at your disposal, a room you can control year-round and premium seats to any entertainment event taking place in the arena during the year.
This focus on the deluxe fan experience has resulted in a lower seating capacity – from 19,596 at the Oracle Arena to 18,064 at Chase Center.
Despite Oracle Arena’s worn out feel, the Warrior fan base grew fond of the place over the years. To preserve the jovial atmosphere and deafening noise that coerced oppositions into capitulation when the Warriors squad went on one of its trademark runs, team president Rick Welts noted that architectural choices were made with potential decibel levels factored in.
Even though the arena was unveiled to the public, portions of it and its surroundings are yet to be completed. The practice facility, including the locker room and weight room, still aren’t ready for the players to use. There is a 5.5-acre park that is not associated with the Warriors, but nonetheless adds luster to the arena as an entertainment hub that is still under construction.
Congestion was a recurring issue at Oracle Arena, especially when the Warriors shared home games with its next-door neighbors, the Oakland Athletics. It will likely continue to face traffic and clogging issues at Chase Center, at least for the upcoming season. There will be a ferry landing at 16th Street, but still hasn’t been approved by the regulating bodies. For the time being, there will be a temporary service to Pier 48 on game nights, approximately a 10 minute walk to the arena. The Central Subway will not be operational till at least January.
There are still some ways to go before we see Chase Center running on all cylinders with all its accoutrements. Yet, what we have been privy to so far has been promising and dazzling. But only time will tell if the arena can reconfigure the mystical aura and gaudy sound levels at Chase Center with its opulent inhabitants.
