Steph Goes down with another ankle injury, will not be with team on short road trip

With only a few minutes into the start of the Warriors/Spurs Oakland match-up Thursday night Steph Curry went down with yet another ankle injury.  This time it was a non-contact ankle roll of the right ankle, the same ankle that he rolled a few games back against the Atlanta Hawks when he landed on Zaza Pachulia’s foot.

Following a strong layup attempt and getting fouled between two Spurs players on a fast break Curry landed safely on the ground.  As he was slowing his body down with a few small shuffle steps on the baseline his right ankle seemed to slightly give just enough to where the ankle would completely roll over before it quickly snapped back leaving Curry walking into the tunnel very gingerly on his right leg.  He would emerge from the tunnel limping and would go on to make both free throws before he was subbed out of the game.

The glaring difference between the two recent ankle injuries was that Curry wasn’t able to return to the game this time unlike his ankle tweak against the Hawks in which he was able to check back into the contest and catch fire briefly before getting subbed out of the game for good just as a precautionary measure.  Curry did not return into the game last night and didn’t reemerge from the locker room.  After the game Kerr mentioned that the former 2-time MVP would not travel with the team on the short 2-game road trip ultimately ruling him out for the next two games at least.

Although the Warriors are in a race with the Rockets to snatch up the 1-seed the truth of the matter is that Golden State likely won’t need Curry on the court to have a good shot at overtaking the Rockets for the 1-seed in the Western Conference.  Their strength of schedule for their remaining games doesn’t feature many tough match-ups if any.  I would venture out and guess that the Warriors will not be looking to rush Curry back onto the floor anytime soon and almost utilize this time as a good rest break for the embattled guard before the start of a grueling post season featuring plenty of hungry teams looking to advance themselves into the later rounds of the playoffs and beyond.

Curry is currently listed as day-to-day and no official time table has been set for his return.
