Steph Curry to Host 2022 ESPYs Awards

The now four-time NBA Champion Steph Curry can add another accolade to his already accomplished list: ESPYS Host. Wednesday afternoon he made an official post to his Twitter account, check it out here.

He will being doing so in a little under a month as it is set to be held on July 20th. Curry joins a very short list of well-known athletes to host the ESPYS. This list includes Lance Armstrong in 2006, Lebron James in 2007, John Cena in 2016, Peyton Manning in 2017, Danica Patrick in 2018, as well as Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, and Russell Wilson in 2020. Now the two-time MVP gets to be the one handing out awards instead of receiving them.

In years past the Warriors or their players have won at the ESPYS including in 2017 when they won the award for best team. Some of the awards include Best Athlete in Men’s Sports, Best Team, Best Game, Best Play, Best NBA Player, and Best Record-Breaking Performance to name a few. Which begs the question of whether Curry or the Warriors will win any awards this year as they have had some great moments on their way to an NBA Championship.

Best Record-Breaking Performance could go to Steph for breaking Ray Allen’s all time three-point mark. Or Best NBA Player could very well go to Steph as well for his performance this season and for winning both the Western Conference Finals MVP and Finals MVP. And although unlikely, it would be great to see Jordan Poole nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete as he went from the G-League last year to a polished second or third option on a team that won the championship.

Regardless, it will be a great opportunity for athletes alike to come together and not only acknowledge Curry’s greatness but the greatness of their peers across the sports world. In addition to that, most ESPYS hosts take the liberty to come prepared with well written (or poorly written) jokes, so we’ll have to wait and see if he has any “night night” jokes or something to rile everyone up. Most NBA fans remember Peyton Manning’s joke in 2017 when he said that KD would want to join the USA’s Gymnastic Team because they were so dominant.

While there have only been a handful of athletes to actually host the ESPYS, Curry will be sure to add his own personality to the show. And eager sports fans will have to wait to see if their favorite team or athlete is called up to win an award at the 2022 ESPYS.
