Andrew Wiggins has been playing some great basketball since he was named an NBA All-star. He’s scoring a little less than normal, but his efficiency and volume in the role the Warriors have him in is telling the narrative as it should be told: Wigg’s is one of the best two-way players in the league right now. His numbers may not be the flashiest, but he’s a major contributor to winning, and people recognize that.

And, as Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike always say, how could you hate that smile?

Wiggins also has a lot of nicknames. Maple Jordan, Air Canada, 2-Way Wiggs, you’ve heard ‘em all at this point either via Twitter or the Warriors broadcast (thankfully, they haven’t managed to call him anything like “Human Helicopter”). But it seems that his preference may be something else, as this clip for the NBA All-star draft on TNT showed today:

You heard that right. Mr. Fantastic. That might be in the Hall of Fame of self-appointed nicknames.

The best part about it is that it actually works. Wiggins has a superstar’s frame and potential, but he’s perfectly content to be a role player. He loves the game of basketball and loves playing it the right way. He is, in every sense of the word when it comes to hoops, a “Mr. Fantastic”-esque kind of guy.

Well, he’s got the potential to be, at least. This All-star appearance is probably the first of many for Wiggins, especially if you sticks with the Warriors. The good news is he probably isn’t a max-player kind of guy, and he likes in Golden State by all accounts: He seems happy and loves the culture. Would he take a pay cut to stay? Only time will end up telling, but at 26 years old, he could find a new permanent home in San Francisco.

Not to mention, the fans in the Bay are probably gonna start calling him Mr. Fantastic from here on out, which I’m sure he’ll appreciate. Wiggins went from viewed as a trade piece to a part of the Dubs’ future, and the love from the fans like this is certainly something special.
