Warriors struggle from deep in loss to the Mavericks
Wednesday night’s game versus Dallas proved to be a challenging one, as Golden State couldn’t find their rhythm from deep. Maybe Steph’s shooting slump from the past few games has rubbed off on the team a bit, as they were only able to hit five three as a team. Their lack of shot making would lead them to a 99-82 loss in which the Mavs didn’t shoot much better, having only made twelve threes and a few of them coming in garbage time.
In comparison, the Luka Doncic led Mavs shot thirty percent from deep whereas the Warriors shot a lackluster seventeen percent from behind the arc. Shooting seventeen percent from any area is usually a bad sign and it was for the Warriors. Not only did they struggle from three but also the midrange along with a subpar percentage for free throws. The shooting splits after the game were 40.7, 17.9, and 68.8 percent respectfully. It just wasn’t the Warrior’s night as many of the shots were going in and out even on open looks. Pair that with sixteen turnovers, not their highest amount this season but still enough to make you shake your head as a fan. This is no slight on the team as every team is due for a bad game every once in a while. But if we look back to last season or even in seasons prior, many of Curry’s great games have come after he struggled for a few games.
So fans shouldn’t be worried about the team struggling to hit shots from distance, especially with the squad that has been assembled this year. It also should be taken into consideration that Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr did not play in Wednesday night’s game. And the obvious which has been said over and over that Klay and Wiseman are well on their way back. With that being said, fans should just forget this game and focus on the next one. The Dubs take on New Orleans in a back-to-back game on Thursday night. Although it is reported that Steph might take a rest day as he tweaked his quad during the game versus Dallas.
This will be a good test for the squad, with or without Curry, to make up for the poor shooting performance. We will see if they bounce back from their shooting slump against a younger Pelicans team that are looking for revenge after losing to the Suns on Tuesday night. If the Warriors learned anything from the loss against Dallas it is that they can stay in games with their defense and shooting from the field. But in order to win they must hit their outside jump shots, something that has been crucial in years past.
