Nico Mannion to miss several weeks of basketball as he recovers from stomach virus, photo shows a very slender Mannion

We’re coming up on almost a month now since the news broke that Nico Mannion would be taking his talents to Italy.

On August 10 it was announced that Mannion agreed to sign with Virtus Bologna of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A and the EuroCup. The move was made as Mannion felt that instead of remaining on a two-way deal with the Golden State Warriors, he could better develop his game competing in Italy rather than bouncing back and forth from the NBA to the G-League. The Warriors still retain his restricted free agency rights should he return to the NBA.

The week prior to Mannion agreeing to play for Virtus Bologna, he was in Tokyo playing in the 2021 Olympic games representing Italy. Mannion, by all accounts, shined in the games as he became one of the youngest players to ever play for the Italian National Team and finished his Olympic campaign averaging 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds over the course of four games.

At some point, however, while in Tokyo, Mannion caught an intestinal virus, according to his Virtus Bologna head coach, Sergio Scariolo.

"Nico Mannion? He had an intestinal virus in Tokyo 2020, he will be out for several weeks. We are looking for a young point guard on the transfer market who can remain on the Virtus roster"

A photo recently posted to Twitter showed what appeared to be a very slender-looking Mannion standing on the sidelines of a basketball gym. One of the side-effects of an intestinal infection can be weight loss, and that looks like it could very well be why the Italian-American point guard is looking very thin in the image.

Mannion has yet to make a full recovery from the infection and is believed to be out for several weeks as he recovers. His Italian club is currently looking to sign another player who can fill in for the former Warrior while he is out.

We’re all wishing Mannion a speedy recovery and would like nothing more than to see Nico back on the floor doing his thing.
