Wiggins takes passive-aggressive shot at Warriors organization

By now, the whole world is aware of where Andrew Wiggins stands in regards to getting vaccinated in order to satisfy the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s order requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all participants age 12 and older at large indoor events. If you’ve been living under a rock, the Canadian hooper doesn’t want to get it.

That information should technically be private and only made public by the discretion of the individual who its regarding. In a situation like this, however, where everyone would have likely eventually figured it out, i’m sure Wiggins would have preferred to address the issue and have it be made public on his own terms if desired.

That wasn’t the case, as reports leaked over the last few weeks of Wiggins’ non-vaccinated status. The leaks presumably coming from within the Warriors organization.

During a very tense media day interview session, Wiggins was asked if he was wearing a mask while around his teammates. His response included a subtle jab at the Warriors organization or more likely certain members within the organization.

“I’m just gonna keep what I do private,” Wiggins said. “I’m sure whatever I do in this building is gonna get out to you guys anyway. So I’m sure you guys will figure it out or you know, know about it in the next couple of hours or tomorrow or something.”

That second sentence in that quote was pretty obviously a passive-aggressive shot most likely aimed at Golden State brass.

If Wiggins continues to keep his firm stance on non-vaccination, the news would have eventually come to light during the Warriors’ October 15 preseason game at home against the Portland Trailblazers as the City’s order is to kick in on October 13.

Maybe the usually mild-mannered Wiggins wanted to buy some time to decide if he wanted to eventually get the jab without facing any public scrutiny. If so, that is certainly no longer the case as all eyes are now on the Warriors small forward.

He’s on the clock now as the last day he can commit to getting vaccinated without missing any regular-season home games is October 7, if he decides to go with the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine which has a two-week wait period until one can be declared fully vaccinated.

It seems that something will have to give, and only time will tell what that something will be.
