Andrew Wiggins to participate in training camp and preseason

There has been a lot of uncertainty over the past few weeks regarding the availability, or potential non-availability, of Andrew Wiggins for the Golden State Warriors for the fast-approaching upcoming season.

One thing that we can count on, as of now, is that Wiggins will be a full participant in Media Day on Monday, all of training camp, and at least most of the preseason.

The new San Francisco rules that would require Warriors players to be fully vaccinated in order to play in home games does not go into effect until October 13.

All of Golden State’s preseason games, besides one, are played prior to the effective date of the new rule. The only one that the Warriors are scheduled to play at home after that date would the one against the Portland Trailblazers that is scheduled on October 15 at Chase Center.

During GM, Bob Myers’ media availability on Monday for Golden State’s Media Day, Myer’s declined to comment on Wiggins’ vaccination status, however, did note that he is optimistic that the Warriors will have their “full complement of players available” for their first home game at Chase.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater recently reported that in the event that Wiggins’ request for religious exemption was denied, which it has been, sources think the small forward would get the vaccine.

Wiggins did say in his own words back in March when he first expressed his hesitancy to get vaccinated, that if he was forced to, he would probably get it. I would say that at this point, Wiggins’ back is up against a wall. His options now come down to either sitting out all 41 home games or getting vaccinated and putting this all behind him.
