A Monta Ellis Comeback Story: Pass or Need It?

Reports came out today that former Golden State guard, Monta Ellis, recently had a workout with the Dallas Mavericks. A couple of other former fan favorite players during their past time in the league also were in attendance.

Monta (or better known as “The Mississippi Bullet”) played for the Warriors from 2005 to 2012. He won the 2007 NBA Most Improved Player Award, was apart of the “We Believe” squad, and was considered to be one of the best scorers in the league during the 2009-2010 season.

Ellis then spent time with Milwaukee (2011-2013), Dallas (2013-2015), and Indiana (2015-2017). His last appearance in an NBA game was on April 23rd, 2017 in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.

If you remember, this isn’t the first time that Monta has tried to come back to basketball. The Warriors (among many other teams) were reportedly in attendance for a Monta Ellis and Amar’e Stoudemire workout in Las Vegas back in 2019.

The question is… will Monta sneak onto a roster for the 2021-2022 season? Is he deserving of a spot? I, for one, love a good “rise from the ashes” tale, especially when it’s involving a talented bucket-getter like Ellis. I know he left Golden State on not the best of terms but I still recollect on the good times we’ve had. I want nothing but the best for Monta and would love to see him make his way back to the NBA.
