Damian Lillard admits to lacking experience with spraying champagne, asked for Draymond Green's assistance
When it comes to celebrating championships, there are not many out there who has Draymond Green beat. We’ve seen some of Draymond’s most legendary off-court moments come while celebrating following his three championships won with the Golden State Warriors.
His pal, and Portland Trailblazers superstar, Damian Lillard, can’t say the same though.
Recently, Lillard sat down with Esquire for their “Explain This” segment. One moment in particular they asked the Oakland native to explain was what went down during the viral clip of his post gold medal game locker room celebration when he was seen struggling to spray a bottle of champagne correctly. In the clip, Green was seen instructing Lillard on how to properly shake the bottle to get the champagne to spray with enough velocity to fly out of the bottle.
Lillard’s explanation of the scene was a very honest one.
“This is, like, what it looks like when you haven’t won a championship. I haven’t won yet and Draymond has won three championships, so after we won the gold medal, everyone is popping champagne and spraying champagne everywhere, I don’t have much experience at that, so I needed the champ(Green) to assist me.”
A pretty straightforward and humble answer. Hilarious, but you have to respect it, especially when it’s coming from a future hall of famer like Dame Dolla.
Draymond and Dame are pretty good friends as evidenced from a few weeks ago when Green was turning up at the Blazers star’s wedding.
Who knows, maybe one day Dray’s instruction on how to properly pop a bottle will be used by Lillard during a post-Finals series victory. And maybe Dame will also be celebrating wearing a Warriors jersey?
