Juan Toscano-Anderson accepts Klay Thompson as "honorary Mexican" in Twitter post
It’s no secret Klay Thompson has had a very Klay-like summer as he recovers from an Achilles tear suffered a week prior to the start of the 2020-2021 season.
Through his social media channels, among other places, we’ve seen Klay in many different settings over the last few months. From attending the premier of Space Jam 2, a film Thompson had a role in, sailing around the Bay on his boat, putting in work on the basketball court, and most recently sticking his head out of a window in what one can only assume is Mexico, screaming “VIVA MEXICO!”, Klay has been enjoying life as only he can. The latter was posted to his Instagram account on Friday.
The viral video quickly made its way around the internet and caught the eye of Golden State Warriors forward and teammate of Thompson, Juan Toscano-Anderson. Toscano-Anderson, a Mexican-American, quote tweeted the video with “Klay we accept you as an honorary Mexican my brotha. Viva 🇲🇽”.
JTA, happens to be in Mexico holding a series of basketball camps in different cities for the local youth.
The Oakland native is no stranger to giving back as he held a backpack giveaway last week in his hometown, just a few blocks away from where he grew up.
During one of his camps in Saltillo, Mexico, the Warriors’ forward surprised one of his campers who traveled 18 hours to get to the camp with an all-expense-paid trip to join him on the next leg of his camp in Cancun. The gesture from Toscano-Anderson was pretty cool to say the least.
Toscano-Anderson wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty at his camp as he played some one-on-one with eager campers. In one instance, crossing over an opponent who then stumbled back before falling to the floor, leaving everyone in attendance oohing and aahing.
It’s no secret that Toscano-Anderson is a fan favorite, and it’s not hard to see why. With his light-hearted tweets, in this case, giving Klay honorary Mexican status, or helping his community, both in Mexico and in East Oakland, the 28-year-old hometown hero doesn’t make it hard to like him.
