They say “when it rains, it pours.” Well, this weekend by Lake Tahoe it can be said “when it Curry’s, it flurries.”

Stephen Curry, his younger brother and 76ers guard Seth and their father and NBA veteran Dell will all hit the links this weekend for the American Century Championship at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, playing from Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesday and Thursday’s play will consist of practice rounds, before scoring begins on Friday and continues through the weekend.

Two-time NBA MVP Stephen is competing for the ninth time, coming off a fourth-place finish in a fanless tournament in 2020. Curry family patriarch Dell was no slouch either, scoring a 50 in the 54-point Stableford scoring format to his oldest son’s 56 (in this tournament, to confuse casual golf fans even further, you want more points and score higher from playing better), and tying for seventh place with former Bulls and Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro.

These performances in a field of scores of athletes and celebrities should not be surprising from Stephen. He launched his own golf brand with Under Armour in June, two months after beginning his journey into golf merchandise by releasing a hat honoring Lee Elder – Elder broke golf’s color barrier in April 1975.

As for Seth, the youngest son of Dell and Sonya Curry is more of a novice on the golf course, which is in stark contrast to how the one-time NBA journeyman has established himself as a premier shooter in the league, just like his father and brother.

Seth has the highest career three-point percentage among the trio, striping it from distance at a 44.4% clip, and after ping-ponging between Sacramento, Dallas and Portland, the 30-year-old found a home this season in Philadelphia, starting in all 57 regular season games he appeared in and shooting a gaudy 45% from distance.

The youngest brother also had praise for Stephen’s golf game ahead of the Golden State guard’s participation in November 2020’s “Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Change”, which teamed Stephen with two-time Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning against Charles Barkley and golf pro Phil Mickelson. The event raised money for historically Black colleges and universities, as well as Feeding America, and although Curry and Manning lost 4-to-3, Stephen’s game was apparently in its best form heading into the match. 

"He's on top of his game," Seth said in November 2020. "I've never seen him playing better. We actually went on a little golf trip last week, and he was legit – on the par a couple of times. I would say he's hot. He's playing the best (he's) ever played, and it's gonna be fun to watch."

The entire first-place prize of $600,000 won in front of empty stands in 2020 was donated to charities, and it seems more purse money will be donated to causes this year.

Former professional tennis player Mardy Fish seized the first-place title from former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo last year, and will be competing against former athletes and celebrities like former Oakland Athletics pitcher and three-time tournament champion Mark Mulder, 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, Justin Timberlake, Barkley and more.

Of the three Currys, Stephen has the most distinct future in the sport of golf, with plans for hosting PGA Tour events at venues like San Francisco’s Harding Park having been in the works in the past but falling short of taking place.

The 32nd playing of the ACC will air on NBC and be played in front of an estimated 30,000 fans, and per the usual, all things with the Currys in the tournament will come in threes.
