Warriors Snap Suns’ 18-Game Winning Streak

Coming into Friday night’s matchup, the Suns had not lost a game since October 27th against the Kings. That is 38 straight days without a loss and everyone in Chase Center knew what this game meant for both teams. For the Dubs, this was their best shot at some sort of revenge after Tuesday’s loss to them. But as Mark Jackson and Ryan Ruocco pointed out on the broadcast, the next matchup versus these two teams could be completely different come Christmas day.

The Suns were without Devin Booker and the obvious long-awaited return of Klay Thompson plus James Wiseman and Andre Iguodala looms over fans. Even with these star players sitting out for multiple games, this primetime ESPN matchup was a showing of the league's two best teams as far as records go. The Warriors are 19-3 and the Suns are 19-4, as of the 118-96 victory in the Warriors favor. Neck and neck, each with their own chance to make another run for the championship.

And while the Suns 18 game winning streak was impressive, the Dubs have somewhat of a winning streak themselves. They are 12-1 at home this season, with 11 in a row being decided by more than double digit points, per Antonin. As well as the fact that they are 8-1 in the past nine games with their only loss coming to Phoenix. One of the main reasons for both teams’ success is their bench, as well as their versatility. The Suns have multiple guys who can defend at a high level and are capable of knocking down a 22-footer. The exact same thing can be said about the Warriors roster this season.

They only played ten guys in the game versus Phoenix and five of them scored in double digits. Not to mention Bjelica’s eight points and Draymond’s nine points and classic Draymond stat line. Green finished with nine across the board, points, rebounds, and assists. His energy was much higher on defense this game in comparison to last game and the Warriors took care of the ball a little bit better in comparison to Tuesday. As previously mentioned, benches play a huge role in success and JTA and the ‘Young Glove’ showed just how bench players can really fire up the team and propel them to a win.

Toscano-Anderson finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Gary Payton II had a career night with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both had electric dunks with Juan’s coming early in the first half, as he flew in to dunk all over the seven-footer and former Warrior, Javale McGee. It feels like every other night the Warriors get a great performance from someone off the bench and tonight was certainly that night. It couldn’t have come at a better time as they were looking for a bounce back game to gain some momentum and they got just that.

They have ten games until they meet again on Christmas day so we will have a chance to see if both teams can build a miniature winning streak before then. Half of the Dub’s games are at home and half are away with a good mix of competitive teams and not so competitive teams. This will be their time to shine before Klay comes back as most reports say he could come back around Christmas. If they can build up a win streak before he returns, then they might have a shot at breaking the Sun’s record this season. They do know a thing or two about winning streaks as they were the last team to win 20+ games in a row during the 2015-16 season.

This is no easy task though, as both Warriors squads that year and the year before had high expectations and made it to the finals in both years. For the Suns they are coming off of a championship run but it is up to them to prove they can make it again this year. Although things could drastically change by the end of the season, the way that both teams win games and play the game should be a testament to how great their rosters are constructed. With the Warriors getting the better of them Friday night and snapping Phoenix's longest winning streak in fourteen years.
