The Golden State Warriors and forward Alfonzo Mckinnie have agreed to a two-year minimum deal per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The agreement clears the path for McKinnie to fill the 14th roster spot which was originally to be Patrick McCaw’s until McCaw made it clear that he was not interested.

McKinnie’s deal is non-guaranteed and won’t become fully guaranteed for the entirety of the season until January 10th per Anthony Slater of the Athletic.

The Warriors had made it public knowledge that they were looking to prioritize youth in the tail end of their roster so it’s not too surprising that the team opted for another young wing since things with McCaw seemed to have fallen through. They did however leave their 15th roster spot vacant which can serve as a leverage point with McCaw who is still a restricted free agent.

McKinnie impressed during his last two preseason games scoring a combined 21-points on 10-of-15 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds all in 38 minutes on the court.

The 6-foot-8, 215 pound swingman seems to be the prototypical Warriors role player not only because of his stature but because of his ability to be versatile on the court. He’s shown the ability to guard multiple positions and rebound well. The one thing to keep an eye on will be his ability to hit his 3-point shots. So far in four preseason games he’s gone 0-5 from deep.

On Friday the Warriors announced that they have waived Deyonta Davis, Danuel House, Jr., Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Ulis. All four players are however expected to end up on Golden State’s G-league affiliate in Santa Cruz.
